Exchange Sentry features:

• Whitelist (Allowed sender) automation

  • Optional self-registration for rejected senders, allow your customers to register for the whitelist without intervention

  • Automatic whitelisting of recipients - add recipients of emails from your users to the whitelist during outbound email, allows Exchange Sentry to learn who are desired senders. 

    • An override ability is provided to screen out automated reply systems to avoid undesired additions
       

• Blackhole Queries

  • Utilizes FREE blackhole DNS servers for real time queries of spam sending servers (no subscriptions needed).  Up to 8 may be used
    

• Advanced heuristic scoring system

  • Score message body - identify spam based on a scoring system you control.  The scoring system is not fooled by many common spammer tricks to hide text.  Many tricks used are detected and scored against the email.

    • score content in HTML tags

    • score SMTP header content

  • Spammer tricks that are detected, that can be scored upon, all are optional and configurable to set the desired score value:

    • Invalid recipients - each recipient which is not valid in Active Directory is scored on, useful to detect emails sent during a directory harvest attack

    • Time Traveling E-mail --  Score for emails traveling back in time, this is fairly common as spammers don't seem to care about correct time zones or clock settings. 

    • Invisible ink - text that is nearly the same color as the background

    • Tiny text - text so small you can not read it

    • Externally hosted web images - with or without text

    • Orphaned text - text past the proper ending of the HTML message body

    • HTML only messages

  • Masked word detector:  Find words even if broken by random characters, dots, or other symbols.  For example:  V.i.a.g.r.a could be found and scored

  • Regular Expressions can be used in scoring system

• Enhanced Log Files

  • Log all emails in or out of your SMTP connector in simple CSV format that can be directly opened in Excel.

    • Monitor your employee's email usage

    • Allows you to monitor your mail flow and users use without fully disclosing full email

    • Automatic housekeeping routine removes after a certain retention period if desired
      

• Mail Archiving

  • Full email archiving with attachments or short form of text version of email. 

    • Useful to monitor your users email use

    • Can be used to document email abuse

    • Automatic housekeeping routine removes messages after a specified retention period if desired

    • Much simpler system
       

• Attachment Archiving

  • archive selected attachment types

  • You define which ones to archive by extension

  • Useful to monitor images, using thumbnail view you can quickly get an overview of images
     

• Manual Blacklist

  • Manual blacklist allows you to identify email from given senders by IP address or SMTP email address

  • Optional "kill override" allows deletion of emails from certain senders regardless of mode for the given user
     

• Deadletter List

  • Kill (deletes) all emails to those on the deadletter list

    • useful to delete emails to common invalid addresses

    • delete emails to terminated users
       

• Miscellaneous

  • Base64 Encoded email bodies are scanned. 

    • Spammers sometimes mask their email bodies with base64 encoding for the body part which can fool some filters.  Exchange Sentry is not confused by this trick and will fully scan the email just the same as if it were plain text or HTML.

  • Substitute list

    • replaces foreign characters to mask words such as accented characters.  For example:  Viǻgra would score as Viagra

    • User customizable

  • Native Exchange Server SMTP Event Sink

    • Exchange Sentry is not a front end to Exchange Server, it uses a built in feature for Exchange Server to connect.

    • Benefits include no port redirection, or additional queues to manage

  • Remote administration tool

    • The administration tool can be set up on remote workstations to allow remote management
